Tom DENISON, a resident of the Panhandle county for 44 years, and for 14 years in charge of Guymon's fire department was suddenly called by death last Saturday morning about 3:30 o'clock. For some months past he has had attacks, but did not consider them seriously enough to allow them to interfere with his activities. Last week, when a painful attack came on him Dr. Morris Smith was called, and he advised Tom should go to bed and remain there until he was free from pain, but this advice was not in keeping with Tom's active life, and was not followed. On Friday night, Dr. Smith was again called, and he remained with him, in an unavailing attempt to afford relief, the end coming in the early morning hours of Saturday.
Thomas Stephen DENISON, son of James Charles and Mary DENISON, was born in Fremant county, Iowa, September 12, 1879, and passed away at his home in Guymon, Oklahoma, Saturday, May 28, 1932, at the age of fifty-two years, eight months and sixteen days. At about the age of nine years, he came with his parents from Iowa, and settled near Ochiltree, Texas, living there for a few years, then moving with his parents to what was then a part of Beaver county, now Texas county, near Hardesty, Oklahoma, where he assisted his parents in farming and stock-raising, later homesteading in the vicinity of Hardesty.
During the years of 1903 and 1904, he left the ranch and worked as a brakeman for the Rock Island Railroad between Dalhart, Texas, and Santa Rosa, New Mexico. On September 9, 1906, he was married to Ida D. DILLINGER, of Belpre, Kansas. To this union, three children were born, two sons, Oliver and James, who preceded their father in death, and one daughter, Gaynelle, fourteen years of age. Shortly after his marriage, Tom and his wife returned to Guymon, where he worked for a while in Summers' store and the Langston Drug store, later moving to Edwards county, Kansas, where he and his family resided until 1916. The lure of of the open prairies of old No-Man's Land, and his many loyal friends caused him to return to Guymon in 1916, where he has resided continously since. - Guymon Herald.
