Melvin L. Thompson,63, Guymon resident for the past 35 years died Tuesday afternoon, May 1, 1990 at Memorial Hospital of Texas County.

The son of Milas Preston and Anna(Anderson) Thompson , he was born March 13, 1927 at Amber, OK.

Melvin and Jocalee Forester were married October 14, 1950 at Arnett, OK. The family moved to Guymon December 1954 from Woodward.

The majority of his working career he was a welder, first for Adams Hardfacing then in business for himself. He owned and operated service stations in Guymon and served as Under Sheriff for the Texas County Sheriff's Department.

He was a member of the Guymon First Christian Church where he served various posts, including Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and in the choir. A Navy Veteran of World War II, he had been active in Barber Shop Quartet and local softball and baseball programs as both player and coach. He loved working and helping young people and often volunteered his time with them.

He was preceded in death by his father, M. P. Thompson Sr.; step-father A. P. Wallin; one brother, M. P. Thompson Jr.; and niece, Shari Thompson.

Survivors include his wife Jocalee of the home; his mother Anna Wallin of Guymon; three daughters, Jodene Thompson of Guymon, Judy Holzberger of Comanche and Janet Dodson and son-in-law Mike Dodson of Hardesty; four grandchildren; and two brothers Roy Lee Thompson of Vici, OK and Rondal Thompson of Hooker.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 3 at 2 p.m. from the First Christian Church in Guymon with Dr. Jere Wells and Rev. Jim Smith, officiating.

Interment in Elmhurst Cemetery is under the direction of Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.

The Thompson family request memorials for the Arthritis Foundation. Memorials will be accepted at Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home.
