A resident at Fidelia Eckerd Living Center, Highlands, NC died on December 25, 2004. Mr. Vaughan was born Albert Pouletaud, March 12, 1905 in Paris, France where he spent his early years. Near the end of World War I he was befriended by a detachment of U.S. Marines stationed near Brest who were instrumental in his leaving France and coming to the U.S. A sergeant in the detachment, Ted Vaughan, gave Albert instructions on reaching the Vaughan household in Nashville, TN, and it was there that Albert was taken in as a foster child and spent the ensuing years. Mr. Ted Vaughan, a law enforcement officer, assisted Albert, now a Vaughan, in his career as a U.S. Secret Service Agent. During the next 32 years he received many distinguishing awards including the Albert Gallatin award. He served under five U. S. presidents from Hoover to Kennedy. Following his retirement from government service he went on staff at Vanderbilt University as Director of Safety. During his ten years at Vanderbilt, his expertise in law enforcement became invaluable and the safety and security program at the University was greatly enhanced. Following his second retirement Mr. Vaughan went to live with Mrs. Shirley Williams, a daughter living in Lawrenceville, GA. Mr. Vaughan's wife, Anna Brien Vaughan, died in 1989. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley and her husband, John, now living in Sky Valley, GA and their children and grandchildren; by daughter Barbara Manneschmidt and her husband, Fred, living in Oak Ridge, TN and their children and grandchildren; by daughter Mary Lynn Boone and her husband, Harold, living in Katy TX and their sons; and by a son, Thomas (Ted) Vaughan, living in Nashville, TN. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. December 28, 2004 at MARSHALL DONNELLY-COMBS FUNERAL HOME, 201 25th Avenue North, Nashville, TN. Father Joe Pat Breen will conduct a memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday December 29th at the funeral home, followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of your choices
