Birth name: SEAMON OSCAR EIDMAN always known as S.O.EIDMAN

S.O.Eidman was born in Oberbiel, Germany. He was the son of SIMON O. EIDMAN.

His mother was Katherine Kraft. Katherine gave birth to 8 children. Mr. Eidman had a 1/2 sister by his Father's previous marriage.

The Eidman family left Germany on April,1846 in a wagon headed for Breman. They sailed for Galveston. The trip took eleven(11)weeks. The family arrived at Galveston in late June, 1846. They boarded a Steamboat headed for Comal River, Brunfels, arriving at the Brazos River at San Felipe after 5 days traveling.

S.O. EIDMAN's father died there in San Felipe on September 22, 1846, along with an infant sister.

Times were difficult for the Eidman family, and the children were farmed out to neighbors who need help in their homes or farms.

Mr. John Crutcher(San Felipe merchant) started Mr. Eidman in the Cattle Business by giving him 30 head of cattle.

1860 Mr. Eidman was elected Justice of he Peace/Pct 1 at Austin County, Texas. During the CW, S.O. Eidman served as Postmaster at Austin County.

Mr. Eidman purchased the first business lot that was sold in the town of Sealy for fifty dollars and sold it two years later for $550.00.

S.O. EIDMAN married Jennie(VIRGINIA)ELINORE GREGORY OF FAYETTEVILLE, TEXAS on February 16,1870.

S.O. Eidman moved his family to GEORGETOWN,TX in September,1879.He served as secretary and treasurer of a building committee with Dr. Mood, Dr. J. H. McGave and Capt. D. H. Snyder to build the first Methodist Church South that ever was built in Georgetown, Texas.

Member of Knights of Honor, a lodge in Georgetown. Organized a Knights and Ladies of Honor lodge which admitted women as well as men. Mr. Eidman was Secretary and Treasurer of that Order for about twenty five years.

At the time of his death, he was living with his son, SEAMON EIDMAN in Bay City, Texas.
