Sparks from a fireplace are believed to have caused the fire in Boise, Idaho, Feb. 17, in which a former Schuyler lady, Mrs. Edith Kading Eastman, 74, was burned to death. The 25-room Eastman mansion at 1215 Warm Springs Avenue was almost completely destroyed by the fire. It was discovered at 9 p. m. and was so intense that firemen had difficulty in entering the house to search for Mrs. Eastman, who had been at home alone. A Boise newspaper stated that it was thought her clothing had been ignited by sparks from the fireplace. Her body was found in the dining room. Edith Kading, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Kading, was a native of Madison, Wis., and came to Schuyler with her parents at the age of eight years. She attended Schuyler High School, graduating with the class of 1899. In 1908, she and Ben Eastman were married in Schuyler. Mr. Eastman, who preceded her in death, was a banker in earlier days. Prior to his death he owned considerable real estate in Boise, including the six-story Eastman Building in the downtown area. Surviving are two daughters and four grandchildren.
