Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Werner F. Zimmer, 90, of St. Cloud will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 10, 2012 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Werner passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012, after a long battle with Dementia, at Talahi Care Center in St. Cloud with family by his side. Reverend Alan Wielinski will officiate. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud.
Werner was born on August 19, 1922 in St. Joseph, Minnesota to the late John F. and Agnes B. (Himsl) Zimmer. He married Mary Jane Faber on September 11, 1952 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring. He lived most of his life in St. Cloud and was employed as a sheet metal worker at Franklin Manufacturing/WCI from 1946 to 1987. Mary Jane passed away in 1996 and Werner married Geraldine A. "Gerry" Benson on November 7, 1997 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in St. Cloud.
He was a member of St. Peter's parish and Legion of Mary and was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels and Jail Ministry with the Legion of Mary. Werner was devoted to the Blessed Mother and handmade and prayed many rosaries during his life.
He is survived by his wife, Gerry of St. Cloud; children, Sharon (David) Classen of Kimball, Marcia (Joe) Gans of Bettendorf, Iowa, Bob (Marie) of St. Cloud, Susan (Sam) Barrett of Avon, Mary Beth (Lance) Lucius of Sartell; nine grandchildren; one great grandson; brothers and sisters, Albert "Bert" of St. Joseph, Sabina Zimmer of Westminster, CA, Agnes Knie of White Bear Lake, Joseph (Isy) of St. Joseph and Clara Guggenberger of Cold Spring.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane; brothers and sisters, Tony Berger, Mary Wilson, John Zimmer, Rose Gohman and Marie Zimmer.
