Deceased Name: JOHN FOLANDER
John Folander, 84, of Florham Park, N.J., and Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Livingston, N.J., died Wednesday, May 17, in his home in Scottsdale. He was the husband of the late Jewel (Mandy) Folander.
A member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 10, Essex County, N.J., he owned Folander Sheet Metal, West Caldwell, N.J., and operated it with his wife for 30 years before retiring in 1986.
Born in Hartford, Conn., he was a son of the late Nathan and Rose (Feldman) Folander.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of lieutenant. He piloted a B-24 bomber and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart and Air Medal with two clusters.
He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans, Livingston.
Survivors: Son, Dr. Hal Folander of Bethlehem; daughter, Jamie R., wife of Robert Merold of Florham Park; sisters, Faye Baskin and Ann Katz, both of Scottsdale, Fritzi Goldstein of West Hartford, Conn., Esther Sieglebaum of Bethel, Conn., and Betty Kraut of Staten Island, N .Y.; companion, Lee Morsch of Scottsdale, and a granddaughter.

John Folander, 84, of Florham Park, NJ and Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of Livingston, NJ, husband of the late Jewel (Mandy), died on Wednesday (May 17, 2000). Born in Hartford, he lived in Livingston, NJ for many years before moving to Florham Park, NJ. He simultaneously maintained residences in Scottsdale, AZ and on Long Beach Island, NJ for many years. He was the owner/operator of Folander Sheet Metal, West Caldwell, NJ, which he operated with his late wife for 30 years, before retiring in 1986. Mr. Folander served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a pilot and first lieutenant, and flew a B-24 Bomber. He received the Air Medal with two clusters in 1944 for heroism, the Purple Heart in 1945, the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1944, and the Asia Pacific Medal in 1945. Mr. Folander was also a member of the Jewish War Veterans of Livingston and Sheet Metal Workers Local Union #10 of Essex County. He was the devoted father of Dr. Hal Folander of Bethlehem, PA, and Jamie R. Merold of Florham Park, NJ; father-in-law of Kimberly Folander, and Robert Merold; dear brother of Faye Baskin and Ann Katz, both of Scottsdale, AZ, Fritzi Goldstein of West Hartford, Esther Sieglebaum of Bethel, and Betty Kraut of Staten Island, NY; loving grandfather of Sabrina Merold; and also survived by dear friend, Lee Morsch of Scottsdale, AZ. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by three brothers. Graveside services will be held at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin, NJ, TODAY, May 19, 1 p.m. Theperiod of mourning will be observed at the residence of Robert and Jamie Merold TODAY and Saturday. Arrangements by the Menorah Chapels at Millburn, 2950 Vaux Hall Rd., Union, NJ. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
