Neva was a member of an Elida pioneer family. Her father homesteaded near Elida, New Mexico Territory in 1902. She married Clyde Gower of Elida in 1936 and the couple had two children: Viola Ann, and James Harlan (or Harlin).
Neva ran the Liberty Café for a number of years. Later she became a cook for Elida schools. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
