Bertha "Granny Carter" Maloney, 79, died Friday at the Hospice Center of St. Joseph Hospital. She is survived by a daughter, Virginia (Mrs. Harold) Campbell of Lawrenceburg; four sons, Howard Carter and his wife, Vi, of Lexington, Rev. Donald Carter and his wife, Ruth, of Cynthiana, Jackie Carter and his wife, Addie, and Ernest Carter, all of Lawrenceburg. Also surviving are three sisters, Annie Bell Roe, and Virginia Wagner, of Versailles, Novella Gilchrist, Lexington; and a brother, Alonzo Clark, Versailles; fifteen grandchildren, including Tommy Campbell whom she helped raise; eighteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and two step great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1pm today at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home, Versailles. Interment will follow in Versailles Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Gideon's International or a favorite charity.
