Mrs. Harold DeWolfe, 53, passed away at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter A. Gillett, 32 South Center street, Thursday evening, January 30.
Mrs. DeWolfe underwent an operation last April in the Community hospital, Warsaw, and though she recovered sufficiently to be able to be up, failed to regain her health. The past two months she had been confined to the bed.
Ruth Marion Gillett was born in Perry, September 25, 1883, the only child of Walter A. and Nellie Tomlinson Gillett. She attended Perry high school and later took a course at Mechanics Institute, Rochester. After her return to Perry she was a popular member in the village's social life.
On July 2, 1907 she was united in marriage to J. Walter Cheney of Perry and their home life was spent here until his illness in 1925. The family moved west, believing that a change in climate would be beneficial to his health. On April 10, 1926, Mr. Cheney passed away in John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, where he had returned for treatment.
Mrs. Cheney moved to Rochester and in June, 1927, was married to Harold DeWolfe of Newark. They returned to Perry in November, 1930. Mrs. DeWolfe was a member of the Universalist church and Rebekah lodge.
Besides her parents and husband, she is survived by four daughters and a son. They are Mrs. Clark [Virginia] Sowerby, [and] Mary Elizabeth, Helen, Lois and John [Cheney].
The funeral services were largely attended in the home at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. Lewis R. Lowry officiating. The body was placed in Hope cemetery vault and later will be buried in Glenwood.
Friends and relatives from out of town attending the service included Mrs. Theron Jackson, Cleveland, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. Earle Milks and Roy French, Scio; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cooley, Batavia; Peter DeWolfe, Peter DeWolfe, jr., and Mrs. Darwin Shaw, Rochester; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Friman and daughter, East Rochester, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brooks, Pearl Creek.
