Jacob Phillip "J.P." Cook, 88, resident of 123 Callison Highway, widower of Essie Burris Ellenburg Cook, died December 6, 2012 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Greenwood County, November 24, 1924, he was a son of the late Jacob F. and Daisy Adams Cook. Mr. Cook was owner and operator of Cook's Garage. He was the 1969 Dixie Auto Racing Club Champion and was a founding member of Emerald City Antique Auto Club. A member of the Model A Club and the local Chevrolet Club, he was a member of many other antique auto clubs. A lifetime member of Bold Spring Baptist Church, he formerly served as a Deacon of the church and was a member of the Men's Bible Class. Mr. Cook was twice married, first to the late Vera Attaway Cook. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Irene C. Devore; brother, Orin "Jack" Cook; and a daughter-in-law, Lisa Cook. Survivors include two sons, Rev. Dennis Cook and wife Marcelle and Andrew Cook, both of Greenwood; six grandchildren, Jacob, Sabrina, Samantha, Kaci, Kristen and Casey; and five great grandchildren. Burial in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Blyth Funeral Home.
