When Mrs. Armanda House passed away on Friday, Nov. 6, Springfield lost its oldest inhabitant. Mrs. House died of senility in her 88th year. She has until the end been a woman of remarkable physical and mental vigor. She was the daughter of Henry Williams and Luna Bates Williams. In early life she married Mr. House, who died many years ago. They were the parents of two children, a son, Frank, and daughter, Mrs. John Klugh. After the passing of Mr. House, she made her home with her son, Frank, and when he met with a tragic death, it was a severe blow to the mother, who had placed such dependence upon him. But with Spartan courage she braved the disappointment and picked up the broken thread to weave a new life's patter[n]. The funeral was held at the Baptist church Sunday afternoon, the Rev. Schuyler Cook officiating. The bearers were Willis Cook, Menzo McRorie, Frank Wikoff and Edwin Ough. Interment in the Springfield Center Cemetery. Mrs. House is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Klugh, and several grandchildren." ["Richfield Springs Mercury" (Richfield Springs, NY), Thurs., Nov. 19, 1925, p. 1]
