Fort Myers News Press, Dec 28 2004-- Jacob (Jack) and Carol Westerhof died together in Sheboygan County where their private plane crashed due to a mechanical failure on Christmas Day, 2004. Jack and Carol were high school sweethearts who were married on June 8, 1963 in Oaklawn, IL after graduating from Chicago Christian High School in 1961 and 1962. Their three children were born in Chicago Ridge, IL and they later moved to Manitowoc in 1973 when they purchased Rummele's Jewelry Store. The couple worked together in their jewelry business for more than 25 years until they retired to Pine Island, FL in 2000. Jack and Carol were not your typical retirees. They eagerly took full responsibility for vacationing alone with their nine grandchildren to their cottage in Hayward, WI and their home in Florida. Jack was a very accomplished private pilot of 35 years achieving his Airline Transport Pilot rating and logging over 4500 flight hours. Carol was a very talented musician who played piano and organ and regularly shared her talents in church. Her wonderful sense of style could be seen in her display windows at the jewelry store. Jack and Carol had a large circle of friends at their residences in Hayward, WI, Scottsdale, AZ, Pine Island, FL, and Manitowoc, WI. Most important to them were family. Survivors include their three children and nine grandchildren: Julie and David Pahmeier of Manitowoc, along with their children Jenni, Steve, Liz, and Matt; Cari Westerhof of Wausau, WI and her children Katie and Lindy Hoida; Jacob (Jake) and Kathy Westerhof of McFarland, WI and their children, Jacob (Jack), Mitchell, and William; Carol's parents, Arnold and Anjean (Iwena) Bandstra; Carol's sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene and Jim Achterhof, Palos Park, IL, Barbara and Leon Van de Creek, Beaver Creek, OH, Donna and Rob Thomsen, Leesburg, FL; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Arnold and Therese Bandstra, Winfield, IL, Barry and Deb Bandstra, Holland, MI; Jack's brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Marilyn Westerhof, Tinley Park, IL; one sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Pete Schipma, Lemont, IL. They are also survived by beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. They are preceded in death by Jack's parents Jacob (Jake) and Ann Westerhof. Funeral services for the couple will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2004, 11:00 a.m. at Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church, Newton. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Kyle Sorensen with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends at Salem Ebenezer Church, Wednesday, December 29, 2004 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The visitation will continue Thursday morning at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. The Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
