Adolph "Jerry" Gutkaiss died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, April 2, 2008. He was 71.

The son of Adolph and Margaret Gutkaiss, he was born November 7, 1936 in Queens.

He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy. Jerry worked for Ford Motor Company in Mahwah for 20 years, and later worked for Town of Goshen in the Water Dept for another 21 years.

A resident of the area for over 65 years, he was a member of the Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club in Eldred, NY.

A family statement reads: "He was a great father who was always there for his kids. Known to everyone as "Jerry", he was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. He was a brilliant man who liked fixing things and tinkering around. He loved his cat, "Boots" and loved his Bud Light."

Jerry is survived by his two sons, Jerry A. Gutkaiss of Bloomingburg and Tom R. Gutkaiss and his wife, Melodie of Newburgh and their mother, Diane and her husband, Richard Conroy of Jeffersonville. He is also survived by his closest friend and companion, Frida Brohan; one sister, Alberta Murtaugh of New Windsor; two grandchildren, Shaina and Tom Gutlkaiss, Jr.; brother-in-law, Kenny Chase and his family of Bay Shore, NY, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Joyce Chase.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940.

The funeral service will be held Monday, April 7, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Washingtonville Cemetery, Goshen Ave., Washingtonville, NY.
