Emmett Wesley Bower, 89, Chanute, Kansas, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

He was born July 25, 1914, in Chanute, Kansas, the son of Dan, Sr. and Laura (Hodgden) Bower.

He graduated from Chanute High School.

On De. 29, 1940, he married Betty Lou Slaback in Parsons, Kansas. She preceded him in death, Dec. 18, 2003.

He worked at Beech Aircraft in Wichita and also was a civilian employee for Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. He moved back to Chanute in 1946 and worked at Ford Tractor before working for Kustom Electronics for many years.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chanute, and a member of the Do-Si-Do Square Dance Club for many years.

He enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, square dancing, and gardening.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Pigue
