Rev. Gordon U. Nichols 82, was called home on December 4, 2012. He was born on June 6, 1930 in Roanoke, Alabama.

Gordon joined the United States Air Force in 1950 and was stationed in Indianapolis. It was there he met the love of his life, Anna Schwomeyer and they fell in love and spent 57 wonderful years together.

Gordon worked for the United States Post Office, where he served in many capacities. Not being one to sit idle, Rev. Nichols became a licensed minister in the United Church of Christ, upon retirement from the Post Office and Air Force Reserves.

He and Anna faithfully served the congregation at Pleasant Hill U.C.C. in Wingate, Indiana for 14 years. Rev. Nichols also volunteered for over 25 years as Chaplain for Westpark Rehab and Healthcare. Gordon was a devoted member of Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ, where he taught adult Sunday School and served in many leadership positions. Making other people happy was what made Gordon happiest.

He is survived by two daughters, Nancy and Jim Boylan and Robin Nichols and one son, Keith and Linda Nichols. Also surviving are grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
