John D. Thurman, 91, died Sunday, February 9, 2003 at the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Veteran Affair Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Lakewood Memorial Funeral Home. Service are 10 a m. Tuesday at the funeral home with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park. Mr. Thurman was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. He was also a member of several organizations including the Masons, Eastern Star, and the Hinds County Outdoor Club.
He is survived by his loving family, including his wife, Arkie Mary Thurman of Canton; daughters, Mary Helen Horne and husband Ottis J. Horn Jr. of Arlington, Texas; Sarah N. Shows and husband Fred D. Shows Sr. of Mandeville, La.; along with five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many beloved friends.
