Clara Harmsen, 94, of Tipton, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 1983, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton, where she had resided for several years.

Visitation is after 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 21, at Dye Funeral Home in Tipton. Memorials may be made to the family in her memory.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 25, at Dye Funeral Home in Tipton. Pallbearers are six of her grandsons. Burial will be in the Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa.

Clara Klahn was born October 13, 1888, in Cedar County, the daughter of Jochim and Agnes (Hoepner) Klahn. She received her education in the Cedar County rural schools. She married Charles Mathias Harmsen on January 21, 1914, in Davenport. The couple farmed near Bennett and Sunbury, until they moved to a farm in Red Oak township, northwest of Tipton in December 1940. They continued to farm, until they retired to Tipton in 1950. Charles preceded her in death on April 4, 1968. She continued to live in her home, until she sold her house in 1973, and moved into an apartment. When her health became an issue, she became a resident of the Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton. She was a member of the Red Oak Kings Daughters, the Women's Relief Corps, the Needlecraft Club and the Flower Club. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, baking, needlepoint and watching Lawrence Welk on TV. Above all, she loved the time she spent with her family and friends.

Surviving are two sons, Alvin (Grace) Harmsen of Davenport and Harold (Dorothy) Harmsen of Tipton; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, Edward, John, Leonard and George Klahn, four sisters, Dora Schneekloth, Ella Klahn and twin sisters, Amanda and Emilie Klahn in infancy, one half-brother, Henry Scheel, one half-sister, Margaretha Peters, two nieces, Alverta Groth and Dorothy Ellsworth and two nephews, Orville and Elmer Klahn.
