Fred Richard Savage, 80, of Crosbyton passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, in Crosbyton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Crosbyton with Bro. Les Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Crosbyton Cemetery under the personal care of Adams Funeral Home, Crosbyton. Fred was born March 10, 1932, in Edom, Texas, to the late Richard and Edra Mae (Strandard) Savage. He was a graduate of Crosbyton High School and joined the Marines immediately after his graduation to fight in the Korean War. In 1953, he married the love of his life, Vera Lee Dewbre, in Lovington N.M. Fred dedicated 35 years working for El Paso National Gas and retired in Bloomfield, N.M. In 1978, they made Crosbyton their home and he went to work at American National Insurance Co. for many years while also working for the Boll Weevil Program. He was also the foreman of Silver Falls National Park. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was happy spreading the word of the Lord. Fred loved spending time watching the Dallas Cowboys with his family, and was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Karen Garcia; one brother, Bill Savage; and a sister, Jo Hynson. Survivors include his wife, Vera Savage; two daughters, Cynthia Martinez of Crosbyton, and Penny Ward and her husband Terry of Houston; six grandchildren, Aaryn Purvis and Adam of Mississippi, Christopher Savage and Melissa of Spur, Holli Martinez and Mario of Crosbyton, Kristina Martinez of Crosbyton, Tiffany Garza of Dalhart, and Jose Garcia of Crosbyton; 15 great-grandchildren; and many, many friends. www.adamsfuneral.com
