Record Producer. Best known for his business partnership with Kit Lambert, they discovered the seminal British rock band The Who. Born Christopher Thomas Stamp in London, the son of a tug boat operator, his older brother Terrance Stamp became a successful actor. Chris entered the entertainment industry during the early 1960s with the aid of his brother and worked initially as theater prop man. During this period, he met the ambitious Kit Lambert and the pair set off to produce a film that would capture the essence of the British rock and roll scene. When the music ensemble The High Numbers where performing at a local London establishment, Lambert and Stamp were so impressed they decided to by out the group's manager and undertake their guiding. The Who came to fruition and with their success, Lambert and Stamp formed the Track record label. Track was associated with The Who's classic albums "A Quick One" (1965), "The Who Sell Out" (1967), "Tommy" (1969), "Who's Next" (1971) and "Quadrophenia" (1973). Additionally, their label played a significant role in the career of Jimi Hendrix as his debut album "Are You Experienced?" (1967) and the hit single "Purple Haze" (1967) were released. Arthur Brown of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown also began his career under the Track label in 1967. After Lambert and Stamp's association with The Who dissolved during the mid 1970s, they relocated to New York where they produced records for the group Labelle. Stamp and Lambert soon parted ways and both struggled with drug addiction. Stamp would straighten himself out and go on to become a psychotherapist and practice along with his wife in the New York City-area. He died following a battle with cancer.
