Kathleen I." Kate " McGraw, age 78, of Gladstone, Illinois passed away at 11:45 pm on December 3, 2012 at Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst, Illinois. Kathleen was born on August 2, 1934 in Gladstone, Illinois and is the daughter of Everett "Jimmy" and Martha Lox Lewis. Kate attended Gladstone schools and graduated from G & O High School. Kate married Robert E. " Bob " McGraw on June 14, 1953 in Gladstone, IL. and he is surviving.
Kate started working at Cooks Department Store in Burlington, Iowa as a clerk and office worker. She then was employed by Unit 115 Union School District where she was head cook for 26 years. She retired in 1996. Kate was a former member of the Henderson County VFW Auxiliary, and earlier was a girl scout leader for her daughter.Kate was a professional grandma and her family was the most important to her. Among Kate's interests are bingo, bowling, crocheting, flowers and gardening, reading, and going four wheeling. She also in earlier years enjoyed square dancing.
She is survived by her husband, Bob McGraw of Gladstone, Illinois; four daughters, Donna K. (Mick) Albin of Gladstone, IL; Patty (Gary) Wood of Gladstone, IL; Kathy (Randy) Grafton of rural Stronghurst, IL; and Betsy (Scott) Cooper of Gladstone, IL. One son survives, Lewis (Tammy) McGraw of Oquawka, IL. There are sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A number of nieces and nephews also are surviving. She is preceded in her death by her parents, two brothers, and an infant grandson.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Saturday December 8, 2012 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Cremation will then be accorded. Her family plans visitation at the funeral home in Oquawka with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday evening. A memorial fund is being established for the Gladstone Fire Department.
