Gayle G. Carlson, 71, of Atchison, KS, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Lee Hendon officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 PM, in the May Day Cemetery, Northeast of Clay Center, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorials in honor of Mr. Carlson are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the First Christian Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Gayle was born June 3, 1941 in Clay Center, KS the son of George L. and Esther M. (Bertsch) Carlson. He graduated from Green Rural High School in 1959. Gayle had worked as an insurance agent for the Farm Bureau Insurance Agency for 40 years retiring in 2000. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Elks Lodge #647, Jaycees and Bellevue County Club. He served as an Atchison City Commissioner from 1974-1978 and was on the Planning commission for 8 years. He enjoyed studying genealogy, golfing and visiting with friends at the Reynolds/CVS Coffee Club.
Gayle married Barbara K. Walter on June 3, 1960 in Fairbury, NE. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include two sons, Doug Carlson and his wife, Shannon, Grandview, MO; Trent Carlson and his wife, Cynthia, Edwardsville, KS; a daughter, Roshel Berthelsen and her husband, Eric, Overland Park, KS; sister-in-laws, Bev Carlson, Clay Center, KS; Margaret Toburen, Clay Center, KS; brother-in-law, Ronald Walter and his wife, Jean, Topeka, KS; 3 grandsons, 1 granddaughter and 1 great-granddaughter.
Gayle was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ron Carlson.
