No DatesLieutenant Harding was murdered by a bar patron at 9th and Walnut Sts. where he was investigating a report of trouble. After he entered the saloon a man immediately shot him in the shoulder and back with a gun. The fleeing shooter was then shot and killed by another police officer. Lt. Harding was a Civil War veteran and was survived by a wife and five children.

Born: Died: May 7, 1835. December 6, 1885. Police Officer. Cause of Death: Pistol Shot in Brain. Dr. H. C. Miller, Louisville, Ky. Place of Death: 539 Walnut Street, Louisville, Ky. Undertaker: Pearson & Son, Louisville, Ky. Burial on December 9, 1885 at Cave Hill Cemetery in the Highlands of Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky.
