Waynesville, Stanley Charles Henry, age 90, of Ridgewood Drive, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2012 at MedWest Hospital.

A native of Blount County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Charlie and Lyda Keeble Henry. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Iva Jones, and one brother, Max Henry. He was a US Army veteran of World War II having served in the 4th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron; he was among the first troops to land on French soil on D Day. There he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Stan received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Western Carolina University in Business Administration. He was owner of Stan Henry Auto Sales and following his retirement, he co-owned Waynesville Tractor Lawn and Saw. He was a member of Dellwood Baptist Church, a former board member of the Haywood County Schools and Haywood Vocational Opportunities. He was also a member of the Waynesville Lions Club, Waynesville Masonic Lodge, and the Waynesville VFW and American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bea Jane Harris Henry; two sons, Stanley Charles Henry, Jr. of Bahama, North Carolina and Steven Lee Henry and his wife, Tammy, of Canton; four grandchildren, Andrea, Michál, Ivey, and Isaac Henry; three great-grandchildren, Klintlee, Caden, and Kadan; and a niece, Tracey Seely.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Bobby Rogers and Reverend Barry Willett officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with military gravesite rites conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 prior to service at funeral home.
