Charles was the son of George W. and Stella J. (Smith) Clement.

George Washington, Jr., born on 15 October 1814;
Ralph Alexander, born on 3 February 1817;
William Calloway, born on 29 November 1818;
Paulina Agnes, born on 17 November 1820;
Sarah Isabella, born on 16 December 1822;
Stella Johnson, born on 11 January 1829;
James Reid; born on 27 June 1831.
Charles was listed as a farmer in the Union Hall area of Franklin County. On 1 June 1861, Charles was mustered into Co. K, 10th Virginia Cavalry. He was described at enlistment as being 4'10" with blue eyes. He was on the rolls on 30 June 1861 but was discharged on 23 May 1862 for being overage. At the age of 40, Charles married Caroline Dickinson on 9 November 1864 in Franklin County. She was the daughter of Pleasant, Sr. and Martha (Brown) Dickinson.They had the following children:
Ella Reid, born in February 1866;
Sally Johnson, born in May 1868;
Caroline Beth, born in February 1869.
The exact dates of their deaths are unknown but it is believed Charles died sometime after 1901 and Caroline died after 1909."
