Denis Golden was born in the Spring of 1847 in Caherciveen County Kerry Ireland the son of Denis Sr. and Katherine McCrohan Golden. He was baptised June 20, 1847 in the Catholic Parish of Cahir by Rev. J. Healy with John Halehan and Joan Golden as his sponsors. He came to America via Canada to New York with his parents and sister Julia. Another sister Anna was born in New York in 1850. The family went to California to the Gold Rush but only found enough gold to make Katherine a pair of earrings which she wore all the rest of her life. They returned to the midwest. Denis Sr. died and Katherine married George Courtright. They lived in Watseka, Illinois where Denis grew to manhood and he married Maria Mahan on April 14, 1873. They became parents to Julia Maude, Katherine and Addie. Denis worked for the railroad and built a home at 238 Park Avenue in Watseka where he died March 16. 1916 of Chronic Nephritis. He is buried in St. Mary Cemetery just West of the main road as you go into the front gate. The birth date on the stone is wrong. I have seen the baptismal certificate that says this is not possible.
