An Honored Member of the G.A.R. and Citizen Passes into Rest

Major C. C. Wilcox died last night after a six week struggle for life. Previous to this sick spell Major Wilcox had always enjoyed good health and was a worthy, industrious citizen of Emporia since 1877.

In the civil war Major Wilcox took an active part, organizing Company G, Thirteenth Cavalry in Tennessee and heading the body that captured the notorious band under the leadership of John Morgan. In this exploit he won high honors and was promoted to captain. His entire career was full of such exploits which won him great confidence and many laurels.

In his death he leaves a loving wife, and six sons, all grown into manhood, and bearing the responsibilities of life. One is living at the old home in Lizabetha, Tenn., where his father and brothers were born. Another resides in Springfield, Ill., and is expected in (Emporia) to attend the funeral, which will be held Sunday at 2 o'clock at the family residence, No. 5 Commercial street. G.A.R. post, No. 55, will have charge of the services, aided by J.F. Culver.

In the death of Major Wilcox, the family not only loses a loving husband and father, but the city an honorable citizen, and the G.A.R. a noble brother, who has always worked for the benefit if his lodge, his home and his friends.
