Roderick L. Detweiler, 88, of the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra and formerly of Hummelstown passed away Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the home.

Born January 20, 1924 in Hummelstown, he was a son of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Etzweiler) Detweiler.

He retired from the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot after working at the Olmsted Air Force Base and the Hershey Department Store. After retirement, he delivered flowers for 21 years for the Hummelstown Flower Shop and the former Early's Flower Shop of Hummelstown. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hummelstown where he sang in the choir for 53 years and was a member of the Adult Bible Class.

Surviving are his wife Betty M. (George) Detweiler; son Dr. Greg J. Detweiler of Morehead, Kentucky; brother Russell Detweiler of Palmyra; and grandsons Jaron Detweiler and Aaron Detweiler.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 210 West Main Street, Hummelstown preceded by a visitation from 1:00 PM. Interment will be 11:00 AM Monday in Hummelstown Cemetery.
