Comer, Thomas Wickliffe (Wick), age 80, was born September 7, 1932, in Nashville, and died peacefully at home on Sunday, December 2, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Nicoll (Nick) Comer of Gallatin. Survived by wife, Victoria Gilbert Comer of Gallatin; daughters, Lynn Comer Doramus of Nashville and Lori Comer Canale and her husband, Dr. Daniel Canale, of Franklin; granddaughters, Nicoll Doramus Hannaway and her husband, Stephen Hannaway, of Nashville, and Victoria Lynn Doramus of Nashville; stepchildren, Michelle Laws Bailey and her husband Terry, Roy Gilbert Laws and his wife Leah and their children, Lily Virginia Laws and Elijah Grey Laws, all of Franklin, TN. Wick attended grammar schools in Gallatin and graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy in 1950 at the top of his class and went on to Vanderbilt University. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves. As president of Washington Manufacturing Company, founded by his grandfather, Robert Wickliffe Comer, in 1914, he managed 20,000 employees at 26 separate manufacturing sites in the southeastern United States. After leaving Washington Manufacturing, he became president of the Bank of Hendersonville. His later years were spent overseeing the R.W. Comer & Sons Trust. Wick will be mostly remembered for his love of the natural environment and all of its creatures. He was especially fond of exotic species of animals and birds and made a home for many of them on his beloved farm on Old Hickory Lake. He was also a breeder of Red Angus and Texas Longhorn cattle and a preservationist for native Shorthorn and many rare and endangered species. Private services are scheduled.
