Seward was a merchant of Portland, representative to General Court in Portland 1813-1815. He owned the first steamboat in Maine the "Patent", a vessel of about 100 tons burthen, that he bought in NY to run as a passenger boat between Boston and Portland. Seward built the "Kennebec" in 1822, the first steamboat to run in Casco Bay.

Seward married Betsey Tukey and they had the following children;

Seward Aug 23,1813-Nov 1,1862 He died in Lavaca,TX unmarried

George Francis Aug 27,1819-before 1880

Elizabeth Otis Porter Dec 1,1821-? She lived in New Orleans.
