Obituary -
Gerald Saling lost his four year battle with cancer on June 20th. He is survived by his wife, Dee, of 59 years, children, Sue Betts, Ron Saling and wife Cindy, and former daughter-in-law Jackie Saling, grandchildren, Shawn Saling and his fiancé, Jenny Baracco, Brandi Ottersen and husband Guy, Jenni Saling and Nichole Betts; great-grandchildren Jaden and Jacob Ottersen, brother Cecil Saling and wife Rita of Grass Valley, CA and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his older brother James Saling of Homer, AK.

Past Activities and Committees: WWII Veteran, U.S. Navy, Dec 1945 - Oct 1947, China Theater, Teacher and Principal in Spokane Public Schools for 20 years, Dean of Instruction, Spokane Falls Community College, three years; President, Spokane Falls Community College,
eight years; President, Spokane Education Association, Board Member, WEA, eight years, Board Member NEA, six years. Numerous communities in local, state and national organizations. Taught summer of 1963 in Sierra, Leone, West Africa,, for teachers of that county through. U.S. Agency for International Development. Washington State House of Representatives 1965 - 1971, Washington State Senate 1985 - 1993. Commissioner Education Commission, of the States, Secretary, Special Levy Study Commission for Washington State Legislature, State Professional Education Advisory Committee. Served on many state-wide Community College committees. Chairman, Senate Higher Education, Vice Chairman, Senate Energy and Utilities, Chairman, Legislative Budget Committee
