William McElfresh Ellison, son of William Henry and Elizabeth Fish Ellison, was born at Falls Church, October 3, 1859, and died here September 24, 1924. He married on November 21, 1883, to Lillian Ball, a daughter of John and Margaret Ann Shreve Ball in Falls Church, Virginia. Mrs. Ellison was born March 16, 1861, died September 10, 1921. Mr. Ellison attended the public schools of Falls Church and entered Columbian University in Washington, District of Columbia, now George Washington University, from which he graduated in the class of 1899 with his degree of Bachelor of Laws. He entered into practice at Falls Church and Washington, District of Columbia, maintaining officers in West Falls Church and on the corner of Sixth and D Streets in the District. Mr. Ellison had a large practice of civil and criminal law, and was a leader of the Fairfax Bar.

A write up of his life can be found on page 110 of Volume 6, History of Virginia, published by the American Historical Society in 1924. This says in part, "Mr. Ellison is well known in his profession as a reputable, honorable, able lawyer, and a member of the Bar Association of the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit of Virginia." Mr. Ellison was a Director of the Falls Church Bank from the time it was organized and owned large property interests in the community and developed "Ellison Heights" owning two hundred lots. He was a Steward of the Dulin Methodist Church for 38 years, and was Superintendent of the Sunday School from 1890 to 1918. A Democrat, Mr. Ellison served as a member of the Falls Church Town Council for 25 years, on the School Board for three years, and served four terms as Mayor of the Town. He was a Noble Grand of Falls Church Odd Fellows Lodge.

In addition to Ella, Fannie, Minnie, and John, William and Lillian had three other children: a daughter, born and died May 28, 1895; a son, born and died June 20, 1896; and another son, born and died June 30, 1900.
