SYLVANIA, Ga. - Hugh Rodney Chance, age 63, died in Savannah, Georgia, on Thursday, October 8, 2009.

He retired from the dairy business in 1985 and later retired from Emanuel Probation Detention Center in 2007. He was a member of Green Fork Baptist Church where he was currently serving as Deacon and Sunday School Director.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Marguerite Lowery Chance and his sister, Erlene C. Taylor.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, DeJuna Hastings Chance; Two Daughters and Sons-in-Law, Kim C. and Dr. Stephen J. Platte of Aiken, South Carolina; and Karmen C. and Wally Exley of Clyo, Georgia; Grandchildren, Kaleb Beasley, Hannah Lee, Emma Platte, John Platte, Julia Platte, Ben Platte, James Platte, Kate Platte, Anna Clare Platte, Stephen Platte, and Marie Platte.; two brothers and sisters-in-Law; Gerald and Joanne Chance of Millen, Georgia, and Fred L. and Marsha Chance also of Millen. Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, October 11, 2009, at 3:00 pm, at Green Fork Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be Kaleb Beasley, Jason Singletary, Bee Jay Rollins, Sr., Tony Taylor, Keith Taylor, and Kelly Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers will be Deacons of Green Fork Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Saturday, October 10, 2009, at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home.
