Duane Munder, 67, left this world as he lived, in a quiet manner, on November 29, 2012 at his home, after a hard fought battle with cancer. His great sense of humor continued with him until the end, and God decided he needed this cowboy.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan with Ed and Betty Berry officiating. Burial will be at the Judson Cemetery, Judson, ND.

Visitation will be held from 3-8 PM on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Weigel Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the Funeral Home.

Duane was born on September 27, 1945 in Mandan to George and Grace (Jerome) Munder. He was raised and educated in the Judson and New Salem area.

At a young age Duane worked various jobs until joining the Loehrke Brothers as a truck driver. He continued construction work with asphalt paving companies, Border States Paving, Fargo and Anderson Western Inc., Bismarck. He continued in paving contruction until his retirement in 2008.

On January 25, 1992 he married Mary Vendsel (Zeltinger), gaining an extended family of four children, Tony, Mike, Carl and Schelle.

The enjoyments in Duane's life were simple to live on the farm, have a weed free garden, beautiful tree and yard and room to ride his horse wherever he wanted. Horses were one of his main passions and he possessed that something special when it came to training horses, Duane just had a way with them. Another passion was his love of sports; football was a must, especially the San Francisco 49er's. "Life is like a game but football was serious." Duane also enjoyed the class B basketball games, attending many of his grandchildren's, nieces and nephews games through the winter months.

Duane loved all small children. Teasing and picking on them were fun for him and them; his nieces and nephews will carry that memory with them always. Duane's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy, and they always had their own special relationship.

Duane was special to those who knew him, and his reserved demeanor will be greatly missed by all involved in his live. From his road construction family to his loving family and friends at home, he cherished them all.

Left with many fond memories are his wife, Mary, New Salem; daughter, Schelle Thomas, Williston; sons, Tony (Tammy) Zeltinger, Minot, Michael Zeltinger, Bismarck and Carl (Ronda) Zeltinger, Kenmare; nine grandchildren, Jen, Ashley, Brett, Cody, Kihley, Cassie, Shawna, Treyton and Jackson; 5 great-grandchildren, Bryn, Wyatt, Sailyr, Boedy and Kysen; brother, Vernon (Tex) Munder, New Salem; sisters, Eunice (Roger) Bueligen, New Salem, Dora (Dave) Bartow, Dickinson and Betty (Tom) Hampleman, Wheatridge, Colorado and special brother-in-law Edwin Jenson, Great Falls, Montana.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dorothy Jenson and brothers George Jr. and Willard.
