Raymond A. Jepson, age 86, of Durant, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Genesis Medical Center West, Davenport.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 4, at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant, and on Friday, March 5, one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or Durant Ambulance Service in his memory.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 5, at the Bentley Funeral Home in Durant, with Rev. Nancy Hoelter officiating. Musical selections will be provided by organist Kathy Luethye and vocalist Henry Bentley. Pallbearers are Brett Eggert, Todd Eggert, Doug Frett, Shawn Jepson, Tom Jepson, Bruce Potts, Orville Randolph and Troy Stanerson. Honorary pallbearers are Harvey Dittmer, Richard Harmsen, Gary Jepsen, Chris Nodurft, Robert Nodurft, Virgil Paper and Vernon Voelkers. Burial will be in the Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa.

Raymond Arthur Jepson was born August 1, 1917, in Bennett, the son of Arthur and Grace (McQuillen) Jepson. He received his education in the Cedar County schools. He married Ruth A. Bangert and they were later divorced. He married Blanche Dorothy Kahler on January 31, 1955, in New Hampton. He owned and operated Ray Jepson Excavating since 1966, in Durant. He was previously employed at Nodurft Plumbing in Durant. He was a member of the Durant Polka Fest Committee for 25 years, the Durant Athletic Boosters and the Muscatine Moose Lodge. He enjoyed polka music, the riverboats and attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events. He was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball and football teams.

Surviving are his wife, Blanche; four daughters, Sandra (Kenneth) Leach of Wilton, Sharon Fell of Wolverine, MI, Cathryn Jepson of Cedar Rapids and Marian Neumann of Durant; two sons, Mark (Ann) Jepson of Bettendorf and Randal Jepson of Durant; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Robb of Durant; and one brother, LaVerne (Joyce) Jepson of Durant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Carole Pauwel, one sister, Opal Colberg and three brothers, Leroy, Gene and Richard Jepson.
