Born January 1, 1933 in Mansfield, Ohio the daughter of Glenn and Clara Bottorf Hammett. She was employed by Westinghouse from 1965 through 1975 when she became co-owner of Ron's Litho printing business of Mansfield with her husband Ron and continued working until she passed. Irene loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church where she was active as a Deacon and a greeter. She loved to cook and read and travel. A cancer survivor, she was actively involved and supported the Relay for Life for many years. She was also a member of MedCental Fitness Center where she enjoyed exercising and spending time with her friends. She belonged to the Richland County AARP chapter, was a 10 year volunteer with the Spitit Ohio Sports Academy. She was also involved in her neighborhood's watch program and was a volunteer for the clean-up project for Liberty Park.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ronald G. Day. A son, four daughters, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren whom she loved very much; a sister and a brother and sister-in-law. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter and a brother.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Chris Whitehead. Burial will follow in Ceasarea Cemetery.
