The obituary for J. W. Fortenberry was published in "The Gadsden Times"; newspaper; Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama: Monday, April 30, 1973

FORTENBERRY, J. W., 78, Route 3, Altoona, died in a local hospital yesterday after an extended illness.

Survivors: wife, Mrs. Zona Lindsay Fortenberry, Attalla; stepdaughters; Mrs. Chris Byrd, Leesburg, Mrs. Opal Franklin, Cullman, Mrs. Agnes Mann, Birmingham; stepsons: Sherman Hudson, Boaz, Willie Hudson, Gadsden, John Lindsay, Huntsville; two grandchildren; 32 step-grandchildren.

Services will be held tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at Collier-Butler Chapel with Rev. Grady Helms officiating. Burial will be in Rainbow Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers: Glenn and Darell Mann, James Talton, Verbon, Ted and Vernon Fortenberry.

Mr. Fortenberry was a native of Blount County and a resident of Etowah County most of his life and a retired farmer.

The body will remain at Collier-Butler through the hour of service.
