Ms. Henry was a native and a lifelong resident of Cankton. She was a parishioner of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church in Cankton, where she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and attended the one time life retreat known as "Cursillo Center." Ms. Henry also attended the yearly retreat known as "Easio Praire Ronde." She was an active member of her church, where she did her yearly "Blessed Virgin Mary May Devotion and her monthly Adoration (Holy Hour Devotion.) Ms. Henry was involved twice a month with the Thensted Senior Citizen Center.
Survivors include eight sons, Eugene Henry and his wife, Juanita, Preston Henry, Jr. and his wife, Jerry, Godwin Henry and his wife, Georgia, Paul Henry and his wife, Patricia, Dale Henry, Gregory Henry and his wife, Andrea, all of Houston, Anthony Henry of Sugar Land, TX and Lt. Col. Gerard Henry and his wife, Juanita, of San Antonio; five daughters, Joyce Green and her husband, John, of Opelousas, Janell Sampy of Richmond, TX, Shirley Phillips of Cankton, Ramona Henry of Sugar Land, TX and Pamelyn Auzenne and her husband, Terry, of Cankton; seventeen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester Green and the former Edia Lewis; her husband, Preston Henry, Sr.; one daughter, Verna Henry; one granddaughter, Lillian Marie Sampy, four brothers, Joseph Green, Willie Green, Aaron Green and Lawrence Green; and four sisters, Lucille Charlot, Ruby Moore, Leola Moore and Bernice Jones.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 8, 2012 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Berchmans Catholic Church in Cankton for Bertha Green Henry, age 86, the former Bertha Green, who passed away Sunday, December 2, 2012 at 2:51 p.m. at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.
Interment will be in St. John Berchmans Cemetery in Cankton. The Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, VE, pastor of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church in Cankton, will officiate at the services.
