Peter E. Bodett, Jr.
From his Military file: Peter joined for duty and enrolled the 9th December 1861 at Derby Line, Orleans County, Vermont, for a period of three years. When he mustered in at Camp Holbrook, Brattleboro, Windham County, Vermont on 18 February 1862 he was described as age 18, 5 feet & 4 inches tall, dark complexion, hazel eyes, and dark hair. Peter gave his place of birth as Salem, Vermont and his occupation as farmer. Private Bodett served with Company B, 8th Regiment, Vermont Volunteer Infantry until his death at Algiers, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, from Typhoid fever on the 7th of August 1862 (Some records say died 8th August). First buried at Algiers, his body was later re-interred at Chalmette National Cemetery, Chalmette, Louisiana. Baptized Pierre Eli on 6 March, 1844, in Granby, Province Québec, Canada.
Original place of burial was Cypress Grove Cemetery, New Orleans.
