DEATH OF DANIEL MO0NEYHAM

WORLD WAR I VETERAN IN ILL HEALTH 10 YEARS

End Comes in Soldiers' Hospital at Wadsworth, KS. - Burial to Be Here


Daniel Mooneyham, about 45, veteran of World War I, son of Attorney and Mrs. R. A. Mooneyham of Carthage, died this morning in the veterans' hospital at Wadsworth, Kansas where he had been a patient for many months.
Mr. Mooneyham had been in failing health 10 years. He suffered from creeping paralysis* [see footnote]
Mr. Mooneyham was notified late yesterday afternoon of Daniel's condition had taken a turn for the worse and the end was believed approaching. He and his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Mooneyham, left for Wadsworth early today. The telegram announcing Daniels's passing was received by the Ulmers at 10 o'clock this morning.
Daniel Mooneyham grew up in Carthage and attended Carthage High. Upon graduation he enter William Jewell college at Liberty, where he quit his studies to enlist in the army in World War I. He served in the field artillery. In his high and college days he was an outstanding athlete and starred particularly in football.
With the close of the war he returned to Carthage and later went to California, where he was employed in a bank. He rejoined the army and served until sickness forced his retirement.
Mr. Mooneyham was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Mooneyham besides his parents are two children, Carolyn Jean Mooneyham and Ensign William Edson Mooneyham and one granddaughter, all of Turlock, California. He was the last of five children born to Mr. and Mrs. Mooneyham. All passed away at an early age with the exception of one son, John A. Mooneyham, who died July 12, 1933, in Carthage.
His sister-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Mooneyham and her son, John, JR., live at the Mooneyham home, 306 West 6th.
The body was brought here by the Ulmers.

Private Services Set for 4 Wednesday Afternoon


Private funeral services for Daniel Mooneyham, 46, who died early Thursday morning in the veterans' hospital in Wadsworth, Kansas will be held at 4 o'clock next Wednesday afternoon at the Ulmer Funeral home.
The Rev Joseph Hickman, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will be in charge. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.
Mr. Mooneyham's two children, Ensign William Edson Mooneyham, U.S. Navy and Miss Carolyn Jean Mooneyham, are en route here from Turlock, CA. and are expected to arrive Tuesday.
