REV. PAUL H. BANET, 89, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011, in Baltimore, Md. Born June 30, 1921, in Fort Wayne, he was a member of St. Joseph's Society of the Sacred Heart, Baltimore, Md. He served in the U.S. Army and attended Princeton University. After leaving Princeton, he proudly served in the Army infantry. During the Battle of the Bulge, he was wounded and captured by the Germans. He received the Purple Heart and other military decorations for his valor. He returned to Saint Joseph College after the war and finished his degree to pursue the priesthood. He was ordained a priest at the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin in Washington, D.C. on June 4, 1955. He had served at the following: St. Peter Calver, New Orleans, La., The Josephite Generalate Baltimore, Md., Josephite House (Perry Ave), Bronx, N.Y., St. Veronica, Baltimore, Md., St. Peter Claver, Houston, Texas, St. Brigid, Los Angeles, Calif., Holy Rosary, Galveston, Texas, and St. Joseph Manor, Baltimore, Md. He celebrated his 50th anniversary as a Josephite Society priest on June 4, 2005. He received numerous awards during his priesthood. Survivors include his sister, Victorine (James) Malsbury of Arcadia, Fla., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry A. and Marie (Henry) Banet; brothers, Rev. Charles Banet, and Lawrence Banet; sisters, Mary Ellen Harris, Sister Laura Banet, P.H.J.C. and Sister Ruth Banet, OLVM. Mass of Christian Burial is 2 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2011 at St. Charles Center, Chapel of the Assumption, 2860 US Route 127 (Carthagena) Celina, Ohio. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Mungovan & Sons Memorial Chapel, 2114 S. Calhoun St., Fort Wayne with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. and Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Society of The Sacred Heart 1130 N. Calvert St., Baltimore, MD 21202.
