Don spent his childhood in Nanty-Glo and graduated from high school there. He completed an apprenticeship at Bethelem Steel Plant, Johnstown, Pa. His apprenticeship upon completion was as a Journeyman Machinist.
He was previously married to Eileen Mary Austin.
Don was a Hydro-Electric Plant Mechanic at the Bureau of Reclamation in Montrose, Colo. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Don is survived by his wife, Laurie Austin of Montrose, Colo.; two sons, Gary Hayden Austin of Tuscon, Ariz., and Stephen Miller of Palisade, Colo.; three brothers, Robert of Santa Clara, Calif., Bill of Dover, Del., and Bernard of Flower Mound, Texas; one sister, Carole Leonard of Nanty-Glo, Pa.; four grandchildren, Katy, Matthew, K J, and Kyle.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church on Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at 10 a.m., with rite of committal to follow at Grand View Cemetery in Montrose.
