Mildred Gae Buckhannon Hardman, 86, of Shinnston, passed away on November 22, 2012 at Heartland Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home of Clarksburg.
She was born on May 10, 1926, in Napier, Lewis County, WV, to the late William Grant and Annie Lee Williams Buckhannon. On June 30, 1945 Mildred married Charles F. Hardman, whom passed away in the Farmington #9 Mine Disaster.
Mildred was a member of the Christ Church United Methodist, Shinnston. In her early years, Mildred worked for Swift Meat Co. In 1944 she worked for Wilson Bakery. And in 1950 she went on to work for Westinghouse Electric Company- Philips Lighting until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the VFW in Clarksburg, Eagles in Fairmont and the American Legion Post #31 in Shinnston. Mildred enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, dancing and camping.
She was known to everyone as “Mid” or “Millie.” When you met her you wanted her as your friend. When you were with her it would seem that she knew everybody. She was warm, compassionate, determined, feisty and could light up a room with her comments or gestures. She loved taking care of her home and working around the yard. Millie was raised during the 30’s depression era and whenever she prepared you a meal, she made sure you had plenty to eat. She loved the 34 years she worked at the Fairmont Westinghouse and her co-workers. She enjoyed, and later missed, her friends of the bus trips, game rooms and vacation spots.
She loved her family, home, job, friends, and her 1984 Buick. If you knew Millie, your world has lost a devoted friend. “Miss Me…. But Let Me Go.”
Millie is survived by her children, Charles Rick Hardman and Darrell F. (Chip) Hardman and wife, Lisa; her brother, Delbert E. Buckhannon and sister, Wanda M. Rohrbough.
In addition to her parents and husband, Millie was preceded in death by her son, Danny E. Hardman; sisters, Ruth Pinkins and Dovenna Winkler and brother, William Buckhannon.
A closed casket will be observed in honor of her request. Friends will be received at Harmer Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 - 4 and 5 - 8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Michael Stottlemyer and Rev. Tom Snyder officiating. Interment will follow at Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.
