John J. Heidt of Riverton died at Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Sheridan on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011. He was 91.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Riverton. Military committal followed at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton.
John J. Heidt was born in New England, N.D., on June 12, 1920, the son of George P. and Emma (Wandler) Heidt. He was graduated from St. Mary's High School in New England, N.D.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and took part in the Normandy Invasion.
Mr. Heidt came to Riverton in March of 1968 to work as an equipment mechanic with Union Carbide in the Gas Hills.
He married Maxyne McCarty on Sept. 28, 1968, at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Riverton. Mr. Heidt was of the Catholic faith, a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church, and life-member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a life-member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wind River Post 3628 in Riverton. He was a past member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge and the Eagles Lodge. His family said Mr. Heidt liked to garden and watch baseball.
Survivors include a son, Barry Heidt of Gleneden Beach, Oregon; a daughter, Paulette Kucera of Sheridan; brothers, Larry Heidt of Bismarck, N.D., and Paul Heidt, of Dickinson, N.D.; sisters, Clara Wendel, of South Heart, N.D., and Jenny Vida of San Francisco, Calif.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony and Fred Heidt, and two sisters, Katie Eberts and Elaine Splichal.
