GRAND HAVEN --- Leo C. Lillie, Ottawa County attorney and historian, died in his sleep at his home early Monday following a heart attack.

Although Mr. Lillie was practicing law in Grand Haven, he had been in failing health for the past three years. He was 59 years old.

In his will, Mr. Lillie requested no funeral services, no flowers and desired to have his body cremated and the ashes scattered on Lake Michigan. The body will be taken to Detroit from the Kinkema Funeral Home Tuesday for cremation.
A dynamic personality, he was born in Grand Haven Nov. 18, 1889. He practiced law there for 35 years.

WROTE HISTORY
His most significant contribution to this city was his book, "Historic Grand Haven and Ottawa County." which he published in 1929.

Mr. Lillie was also general chairman of the Grand Haven Centennial celebration in 1934. As a younger man he staged some of the biggest men's tournaments ever held at the Spring Lake Country Club.

He graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1907 and the University of Michigan in 1911. He was admitted to the bar in 1914.

CITY ATTORNEY
He served Grand Haven as its first attorney from 1915 to 1922. He was past president of the Rotary Club, a past Exalted Ruler of the Elks No. 1200 and was active in the organization of the Charles A. Conklin, American Legion Post in Grand Haven. He served overseas in World War 1 and was also a member of the Sgt. Alvin Jonker VFW post. He was a Lieutenant in the infantry.

He was a member of the Peninsular Club, Grand Rapids, the Spring Lake Country Club and Yacht Club ant the County, State and National bar associations.
Surviving are his wife Sibel and two brothers, Dr. Harold I. Lillie of Rochester, Minn., and Hugh E. Lillie of Kansas City., Mo.
