ISELIN - The funeral of Charles Edward Dilkes, Sr, 81, of 43 Juliette Street, who died Saturday at Perth Amboy General Hospital, was held Tuesday morning at the Thomas J. Costello Funeral Home, Green Street and Cooper Avenue, with the Rev. David Prince, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in Cloverleaf Park Cemetery, Woodbridge.

Mr. Dilkes was a native of Philadelphia, Pa., and had resided in Iselin for 30 years. He was a retired packer at Raritan Arsenal. He had attended Holy Cross University and was graduated Washington, D. C. During World War I he served with the U. S. Army as a sergeant. He was among the first troops to arrive in France with Gen. John Pershing in 1917.

Mr. Dilkes participated in the battles of Montdidier-Nowon, Aisne Marne. St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne. He was a member of Iselin VFW Post 2636.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary Dilkes; two sons, Charles E. Dilkes, Jr., of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Harry P. Dilkes III, at home; four daughters, Mrs. Boger Bangert of Metuchen, Mrs. James Dunning of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Mrs. Valentine Roder of Madison Township and Miss Lola S. Dilkes at home; two brothers, Joseph of Cuernavaca, Mexico, and Augustus of Baltimore, Maryland; two sisters, Mrs. Dolores Morin of Norwich, Vermont and Mrs. Virginia Hart of Philadelphia, Pa.; three grandchildren.
