Don Warren McDaniel Sr., 72, died Thursday, November 6, 2003 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville after a short illness.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Palatka and a member of St. James United Methodist Church. He worked for 23 years as a millwright at Hudson Pulp & Paper Company and was a member of I.A.M. Local No. 1098 in Palatka. He was an U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War and a life member of the Putnam County Hunters Association. He was a loving and devoted family man and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also an amateur radio operator.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lillie Mae Tillman McDaniel; and a sister, Ida Lou Waterhouse.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Ruthie McDaniel, Palatka; four daughters, Paula McDaniel, Janet McDaniel and Donna McDaniel, all of Palatka; and Lucretia (Mike) Cooney, Oviedo; two sons, Don W. (Carol) McDaniel Jr., Tampa; Brian (Sarajean) McDaniel, Palatka; two sisters and spouses, Dessie and Joseph Strickland, East Palatka and Marie and Herman Smith, Keystone Heights; 11 grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9 at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home of Palatka.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10 at St. James United Methodist Church with the Rev. Hardy S. Sandlin III and Richard Waterhouse officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Hill East Cemetery.
