Appolonius L. "Jug" Jagodrinski, 88, of Vandergrift, passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, in his home. Born Nov. 16, 1924, in Leechburg, where he was raised, Jug was a son of the late Appolonius and Bernice (Ostrzycki) Jagodrinski. Jug retired in 1983 from Wean United in Vandergrift, where he had worked for 35 years as a chainman. He was a veteran of the Army, having served during World War II, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal and Victory Medal. A 1943 graduate of Leechburg High School, he was a member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church in Vandergrift; Vandergrift VFW and had been inducted into the Armstrong County Sports Hall of Fame. Jug enjoyed youth sports and coached basketball and baseball for many years along with refereeing basketball in the Kiski Valley. He loved spending time with his family. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Alfred Jagodrinski; and four sisters, Pauline Davis, Janet Gaupuie, Genevieve Ahern and Val Dunn. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Sara E. (Ferrera) Jagodrinski, of Vandergrift; two sons, James (Laurel Sober) Jagodrinski, of Vandergrift, and Mark W. (Cherie) Jagodrinski, of Washington Township; four grandchildren, Autumn (Tony) Dippolito, of Erie, Matthew Jagodrinski and his fiancee, Elyse Jackson, of Lower Burrell, Marcus Jagodrinski, of Washington Township, and Ryan Jagodrinski, of Leechburg; a great-grandson, Jackson Jagodrinski; and several nieces and nephews. At Jug's request, there will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Monday, Dec. 3, in St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, Vandergrift, with Father James Loew, OSB, as celebrant. Private burial will be in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Vandergrift. The family suggests contributions in memory of Jugs be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1100 Liberty Ave., Suite E-201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
