December 2, 2012 Martinsville Bullentin. Lawrence Isaac "Ike" Parsons, 72, of Bassett died Friday, November 30, 2012 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem NC. He was born in Grayson County, Virginia on March 19, 1940 to the late David C. Parsons and the late Carrie Tomlinson Parsons. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Mary P. Cornett and Baby Parsons and one grandchild Miranda Hollandsworth. He worked for Atkins Furniture in the late 1950's, he graduated from Independence High School, he retired from DuPont in 1991 as a maintenance worker, and he was a farmer.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Joyce Bryant Parsons of Bassett, Virginia. Three daughters, Pamela Hollandsworth of Patrick Springs, Virginia., Peggy P. McMurry and husband Don, of Graysville, TN., Kim Chitwood and husband John, of Martinsville, VA.: Two sons, Harvey "Doug" Parsons of Walton, KY., and Jeff Parsons and wife Sandra, of Patrick Springs, VA.
Two sisters, Patsy Fleshman of Roanoke, Va., and Sue Tarter of Roanoke, VA.
Three brothers, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bassett Funeral Service with Chaplain Ricky Atkins officiating. Burial will be in Henry Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
