Jesse Chance Services Held At Bethany

Funeral services were held Thursday morning from Bethany Baptist Church for Jesse J. Chance, 89, who died Tuesday afternoon at Jefferson Davis County Hospital following a long illness. Rev. Charles Gordon officiated and was assisted by Rev. L. C. Anthony, Rev. L. C. Brown and Rev. V. R. Crider. Interment followed in the Brady Cemetery with Saulters Funeral Home in charge.

Active pallbearers were Charlie Chance, Dolph Chance, Harold Chance, Charles Chance, Burns Chance and Clifford Chance. Deacons of Bethany Baptist Church served as Honorary pall bearers.

Mr. Chance was a native and lifelong resident of the Prentiss area where he was a farmer before he retired. He was an active member of Bethany Baptist Church for many years having served as superintendent of the Sunday School for a number of years and as a deacon for approximately 45 years. He formerly served on the school board of trustees at Dry Creek and Whitesand.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lillie Mae Dewitt Chance of Prentiss; seven sons, Curtis Chance, Barney Chance, Rommie Chance, all of Prentiss; Ellis Chance, Newton; Marvin Chance, Jackson; Wayne Chance, Purvis; J. W. Chance, Hattiesburg; six daughters, Mrs. V. R. Crider, Crystal Springs; Miss Bertie Chance, Jackson; Mrs. E. L. Bourne, Columbia; Mrs. A. McEwin, Jayess; one sister, Mrs. Charity Delancey, Bassfield; 29 grand children and 23 great grand children.
